Season for yacht maintenance has come.

Spring brings us warm and nice weather and it’s the time to make our yacht be checked and refit. After some simple steps, it will be ready to sail.

Season for yacht maintenance has come.

If we want to enjoy our sailing days at 100% when summer and sunny days will come, we must think now in tuning it up.

According to Fondear, ship maintenance means a yearly waste of 10% of the total cost of the ship. Part of this percentage it is applied to precautionary maintenance work, which will avoid more serious damages in the future.

Every year it is needed to set ship on dry dock for hull cleaning and repaint.  During this time on dry dock, we have to check if there are signs of osmosis and check seacocks, shafts, anchor, etc.  After that a proper repaint, waxing and polishing are also made.

We have to take in account manufacturer recommendations and proceed with examination of oil and fuel systems, filters, battery inspection or test the horn before boat is ready to action.

In the case of sailing boats, it is also recommended to make the sails revised by the sailmaker to check and replace any damaged or worn element: sheets, halyard…

But many other works have to be done for carpenters, expired pyrotechnics have to be replaced and a revision of life raft and life jackets.

While all maintenance works are being made, the skipper can take advantage of the time by checking navigation charts, plan next sailings or attend specific courses to improve his/her knowledge on first aids, rules of the road, radio or access to a superior navigation title like Master near coastal, master inland or Master of yachts.

Do not forget to ask for best repair and maintenance products on boat’s annual refit.  Our range Marine Protection gives perfect finish and help boat painter to work easier and faster.
